Referendum

The Union "Century 21", Former Political prisoners for Human Rights, Center for the protection of Constitutional Rights (CPCR) and Women's Club "Peoni" initiated the first referendum in the history of independent Georgia. On 2 September, 2003, the President decreed that a Constitutional Referendum would be held concurrently with the parliamentarian elections. The referendum question asked voters whether or not they agree to reduce the number of parliamentarians from 235 to no more than 150.

The referendum was held on November 2, 2003 and more than 1'500'000 voters voted for the reduction of the number.

On February 23, 2005 the President of Georgia decreed the amendments to the Constitution of Georgia.
